Job Overview
We are looking for a Technical Engineer to join our Technical Services team. This is a hands-on integration and data engineering role. You will spend most of your time building and maintaining the interfaces that connect Medicat to labs, state registries, EHRs, and other external systems, running SQL-driven data operations, and solving complex technical problems for our clients.
This is the right role for someone who likes to own their work end-to-end, is comfortable operating in a healthcare data environment, and brings the kind of technical instincts that let them figure out unfamiliar problems without needing to escalate every decision. What You’ll Do
• Design, build, and maintain Mirth Connect interfaces — lab (HL7 ORU/ORM), state registries, patient photo pipelines, and custom client integrations — from requirements through delivery
• Troubleshoot interface failures: read HL7 message structures, trace message flow, and isolate root causes in transformation logic, connectivity, or upstream data
• Set up and manage ETL workflows and automated data import jobs, moving student records between systems with pre- and post-import validation
• Write and execute T-SQL against Microsoft SQL Server — SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT — with attention to performance and data accuracy; build import scripts and automate jobs with Visual Cron
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues across Medicat’s platform using structured troubleshooting, log analysis, and good judgment about when to escalate
Document cases, communicate findings clearly, and contribute to special projects and requirements gathering
• Use AI tools to accelerate research and drafting — while taking personal responsibility for reviewing and validating anything before it runs against production systems

What We’re Looking For
• 2–5 years of experience in technical support, systems integration, or SaaS client support with meaningful interface or data operations work
• Hands-on experience with Mirth Connect (or a comparable interface engine) and working knowledge of HL7 message structures (ADT, DFT, ORM, ORU, etc.)
• Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL: writing queries, running import scripts, understanding relational structures, setting up automated jobs
• Experience with ETL workflows and automated data imports
• Comfortable operating within Windows Server environments daily — VPN, SFTP, Visual Cron — and proficient with JavaScript for scripting and troubleshooting
• Experience in a Healthcare IT environment; familiarity with HIPAA, BAAs, and when to ask for help on compliance questions
• Security and data integrity mindset — recognizes when something has security implications, asks for a second opinion, and will push back when a change would compromise data integrity
• Confident working independently, collaborative within a team, and a quick learner who adapts when the environment changes
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or equivalent work experience
Nice to Haves
• Experience supporting healthcare IT software or EHR systems
• Knowledge of SSO/SAML authentication
• PowerShell scripting for automation
• Familiarity with APIs and REST-based integrations
• Experience supporting college health, student wellness, or university environments
