Systems Administrator
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced, highly independent Systems Administrator to own and operate our mission-critical backend infrastructure. This role requires excellent technical judgment, minimal oversight, outstanding communication, and the ability to deliver reliable, secure, high-availability systems.
You’ll work across our virtualized environments, SAN storage, networking stack, and cloud services to ensure uptime, performance, and compliance.
What You’ll Do
Infrastructure & Virtualization
- Manage and enhance Hyper-V failover clusters
- Build, configure, and maintain new VMs and backend services
- Administer Windows Server environments (2016–2025)
- Maintain and optimize IBM SANs and fiber channel environments
Networking & Security
- Make configuration changes to switches, firewalls, and VPNs
- Work directly with vendors (Cisco, IBM, Azure)
- Identify and remediate vulnerabilities
- Support HIPAA & SOC 2 Type II compliance
Operations & Reliability
- Lead patching, firmware updates, and lifecycle maintenance
- Monitor performance, availability, storage, and capacity
- Own documentation and operational standards
- Participate in on-call rotation for high-impact incidents
- Troubleshoot high complexity tickets escalated from other teams
Collaboration
- Communicate clearly & frequently in a remote-first environment
- Work independently while keeping stakeholders informed
- Provide advanced troubleshooting across infrastructure layers
What You Bring
Required
- 7+ years Windows enterprise systems administration experience
- Deep experience with Hypervisor failover clusters (Hyper-V Preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and GPOs
- Practical networking experience (VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPNs)
- Hands-on SAN or fiber channel experience
- Excellent communication and self-management skills
Preferred
- IBM storage experience
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (basic administration, backups, and performance troubleshooting)
- Cisco UCS familiarity
- Azure / Microsoft 365 management experience
- PowerShell automation skills
- RDS environment support experience
- Background in HIPAA or SOC 2 Type II environments
- Proximity to Durham, NC (primary datacenter) is a plus
